Ice Detection for Rigs in Ice

Ice, ice, ice …. there’s ice all around your Rig,as far as you can detect.

You would have Ice Classed Support vessels around your Ice Classed Rig in Arctic.
Ice Breakers, Support vessels, Chase vessels, Guard vessels ….

The important Ice Detection & Ice Management is done by Ice Breakers and Support vessels, operating around the Rig to protect it from the Ice Hazards.

You would need the Ice Breaker and Ice Breaking Supply vessels breaking up the Ice, especially when you have detected an Ice Berg, or a Bergy bit inside the Icebed, drifting towards the Rig.

You would need an Ice Breaker or a very powerful Ice Breaking Tug to move
an Ice Berg. Ice Breaking Tugs/Support vessel could be able to move Bergy Bits
and Growlers out of the way.

Support vessels are typically chartered for one specific project. We have seen
quite a difference in Support vessels used recently in projects up north.

Only some of these Support vessels have ice detection radar, when chartered.

Arctic Operators would retrofit Ice Detection systems during the mobilization
for these vessels.

RADAR TECHNOLOGY radars could be delivered as “Boxed Ice Detection radar”
Easy to install during mobilization and easy to de-rig after the project.

Complies with DNV GL new Winterization Rules for ships, and DNV GL Enhanced Classification Rules for mobile offshore units, both effective in 2014.
