Ice Pieces ....

The drifting ice pieces could be very beautiful to look at, as dangerous they could be.

Many of these unique pieces could be detected with a marine radar, but far from all. That is why you would be looking for an ice detection radar.

Experienced ice observers using optimized ice detection radar systems could detect most of the drifting ice hazards.

A vessel with an Optimized Ice Detection radar could operate safer through ice,
and remain longer in icy waters.

In short - increasing the vessel’s operational time up north.

You would need an ice detection radar together with an experienced ice observer. The ice detection radar could detect also most dangerous growlers, it takes
the trained eye to identify also very small pieces of ice on the radar screen.

Ice Bergs, Bergy Bits & Growlers origin from Illulisat Icefjord.
You would use your best Ice maneuvering skills here, to minimize ice damage
to your vessel.

The sharp edges & shape of these Ice Bergs indicate that they are newcomers
out on the Bay. They will start drifting and spread out more. The larger Ice Bergs would be monitored by Radarsat and plotted in the Ice Reports for the area.

Not too far away there's yet another Ice Berg, drifting fairly much “alone” with
a few Growlers around it. You could see that this Ice Berg has been drifting
for quite some time.
